The Roadtrip Organ Project

Bringing the organ sounds of France, England, America and beyond to fresh audiences in new spaces

The Roadtrip Organ project is a nonprofit initiative founded by organist Eddie Zheng and dedicated to expanding public access to organ music and preserving the cultural heritage of historic organs from France, Europe, and America. Using a custom-built digital organ capable of replicating iconic organ sounds, designed by Eddie and built by Romsey Organ Works, the project allows concert organist Eddie Zheng to perform in venues lacking traditional organs, from community centers and outdoor spaces to schools and cultural institutions. This portable digital organ opens doors to new audiences who may not otherwise experience the power and beauty of organ music.

The project’s activities include public concerts, educational workshops, and masterclasses designed to inspire a new generation of organ enthusiasts and musicians. Many concerts are offered at low cost in creative and diverse locations, creating opportunities for wide audiences, including those who may have never encountered organ music before. Workshops and demonstrations provide hands-on introductions to the instrument, focusing on its history, mechanics, and influence on Western music and culture. Masterclasses at local colleges and cultural centers engage piano and organ students, broadening their musical exposure and encouraging interest in the organ.

The Roadtrip Organ also partners with schools and community organizations, emphasizing outreach to communities with limited access to music education. By bringing high-quality organ performances and instruction directly to these audiences, the project strives to promote cultural enrichment, preserve the legacy of organ music, and inspire future generations to connect with this historically significant instrument.

Completion anticipated February 2025.
